The
population of the province as of December 1998 is 1,210,921
comprising ethnic Thais, Chinese and Malay-speaking Muslims.
The people in the deep South including Songkhla have a reputation
for quickness of thought and swiftness to anger. A small,
extremely active fishing village is located just south of
the town. The village is inhabited mainly by Muslim people.
