Surat Thani’s
major occupations are fishing and farming of fruit trees,
rubber trees, coconuts, and rice as well as other field crops
which can bring tremendous amounts of income. The most important
economic crop of the province is rambutan or specially called
‘ngo rong rian’ in Thai. It can attract a higher price than
any other kinds of rambutan. It is grown on an area of 60,000
rai and earns not less than 1,000 million baht each year.
Other notable economic crops grown in the province are durian,
cocoa, betel nut and rice.
