Art Galleries

The number of art galleries and cultural centers in Bangkok is steadily growing although still a far cry from the capitals of Europe. Among the most important is the National Art Gallery (Tel +66 2 281-2639) which has an extensive collection of Thai and regional art.

Located at the foot of Phra Pinklao bridge, the gallery showcases modern Thai and international arts. The venue is sometimes used for art exhibitions from other parts of Asia too. The National Gallery has it's own permanent art exhibition but the temporary exhibits of prominent artists are often more notable.

Other art galleries nearby include the Silpa Bhirasri Gallery (Tel +66 2 221-7777) at the Faculty of Painting, Silpakorn University. The place usually exhibits works of Thai art students, and occasionally, foreign guest artists.

Numerous private art galleries can be found all over Bangkok where art works are also up for sale.
