Cultural Shows

Performances of traditional Thai arts and culture can be found in many restaurants and first-class hotels. The performances are often rolled into a package including a set menu of Thai cuisine.

Typical cultural shows arise from each of the four distinctive regions of Thailand. The elaborate and beautiful costumes and the graceful movements of the dancers are always a big draw among visitors to the country.

However, to see a full-blown performance from the Ramakien or one of the regional dramatic performances you need to visit a larger cultural center such as the National Theater or the Thailand Cultural Center (Tel +66 2 247-0028) on Ratchadapisek Road. The cultural center organizes regular dramatic performances on the weekends.

From Bangkok, the Rose Garden (also known as Suan Samphran) is a center for cultural performances and all things Thai. Performances are usually arranged as a one-day tour package from Bangkok. But it's also possible to get there by your own means. Cultural performances here are unlike anywhere else. Apart from the four-region cultural shows, they also demonstrate aspects of daily life such as ordination and wedding ceremonies. The shows are quite humorous.

Phuket FantaSea on the island of Phuket is the latest venue for culture vultures. The company running this venue also operates Safari World in Bangkok. Phuket FantaSea is being promoted worldwide as the ultimate Thai cultural experience. It helps add color to your visit to Phuket, the Pearl of the Andaman
