Long
Neck Karen at Ban Nam Phiang Din
Located
in Mae Hong Son's Ban Nam Phiang Din district is a village
of the Paduang hill tribe, whose women wear brass rings around
their necks, arms and legs. Although the tradition has almost
become extinct, some Karen women have found that their unorthodox
appearance is a rather good source
of income and have thus continued to wear rings in order to
pose for pictures with tourists.
This
unique site is relatively difficult to reach, as it is situated
close to the Myanmar border. However, there are motorboats
and rafts available on the Pai River.
