Tinsulanond Bridge

Named in honor of the former Prime Minister, General Prem Tinsulanond, the bridge was completed in 1986 and was the final link in the highway system linking the southern Thai provinces with the rest of the country. The longest concrete bridge in Thailand, it crosses Songkhla Lake linking both sides of the lagoon to Ko Yo island in the middle. General Prem Tinsulanond is one of the most respected statesmen in modern Thai history and has been credited, together with His Majesty the King, with establishing the foundations of the economic and political stability that Thailand now enjoys. Visitors to Songkhla can admire the convenience of the bridge when they visit Ko Yo on a trip to the Institute for Southern Thai Studies which maintains and excellent Folklore Museum on the island.
